News 06.04.2012 - Boycott Makes Coca-Cola and Kraft Drop ALEC Membership

9:33 AM

ALEC is one of the most powerful lobbying groups in the United States with a board of executives coming from the most successful companies in the market. Johnson & Johnson, Wal-Mart, Pfizer, UPS, AT&T and ExxonMobil are all part of the ALEC Enterprise Board. PepsiCo was a member until earlier this year, when in January it dropped its membership with ALEC but kept in on the hush-hush.

As of today, two new big companies join Pepsi-Co, as consumer advocacy groups’ boycott convinced Coca-Cola and Kraft dropped their ALEC membership. Coca-Cola said that it has “elected to discontinue its membership” and took the time to set itself apart from ALEC’s endorsing of the controversial voter ID law and the “stand your ground” legislation.
